Best Wedding Trends for 2018

Best Wedding Trends for 2018

January is almost half way over and the year already in full swing. 2018 promises to be another fabulous year with some of the best wedding trends to date. Here are our top ten:

  1. Metallics are here to stay: No more rose gold, instead we are talking about other great metallic shades like copper, silver and chrome that are making their way into table décor especially.
  2. A formal affair – Maybe the royal wedding later in May is to blame for brides returning to traditional wedding themes with relaxed entertainment.  The more classical look and feel has also given rise to pearl accessories, which enjoying somewhat of a renaissance.
  3. Living installations: Whether you use potted plants or topiaries for decor elements or create huge hanging installations with freshly cut foliage; one cannot go wrong when including green elements. Living bars, which consist of freshly cut foliage covered in laser-cut painted wood veneer latticework and finished off with a climber is one of the hottest items to emerge from this trend.
  4. Ultra violet: The floral trend is shifting to a darker, richer and moodier colour palette this year, so it is no surprise that the Pantone 2018 colour of the year is ultra violet.  We shall definitely be seeing a lot of deep and dark purples this year, which will be a welcome change.
  5. Transparency: We will also see an increase in the use of transparent elements to give wedding setups a more ethereal feel. The use of light – reflecting Lucite can be seen in anything and everything – from furniture to stationary. On a bigger scale, think clear tents to keep the formal feel but still retain natural elements from outdoor surroundings.
  6. Gastronomy: Heavy importance is placed on your guests’ foodie experience and couples are going out of their way to choose exciting catering options like interactive canapé stations or using traditional family recipes to give a more personal touch.
  7. Sweet like chocolate: No food experience is complete without something sweet. We are seeing brides opting for bigger dessert menus with variety and creative touches like mini ice cream cones, for example.
  8. Coloured candles: The trend of bringing in brighter colours in all elements of the wedding day has meant that brides are now choosing to move away from white or ivory candles. Instead, they are opting to use a splash of colour to light up their evening.
  9. The dress:  Bridal gowns with dramatic black accents mirroring the richly textured and colourful decor and themes that brides are now choosing is a huge trend and can turn any dress into a statement piece. Another big runway trends making its way to bridal boutiques is the use of 3D floral appliques. The concept is being used in combination with the sheer fabrics we saw last year, to create mesmerising pieces as seen by Ralph & Russo and Berta Bridal.
  10. Textured effect:  Adding texture and layers is definitely a hot trend this year. Choose a mixture of various materials like acrylic, leather, metal and Lucite on all or some areas of the wedding, including the wedding dress, table decor, floral designs and even stationary.
